In this course we discuss design-affine theories such as semiotics, communication
theory, media theory and aesthetics as well as ethical principles within design and AI models.
Reflections on theoretical approaches and concepts that influence your practical design work
will be part of the lectures and exemplary design methods of (digital) co-working and learning
will be tested and evaluated.

Learning Outcomes
By the
end of this course theoretical concepts fundamental to designing have been
discussed. You should be sensitized for different approaches to design and
designing. Historic and temporary models and theories have been discussed and
enable to critically reflecting design and aesthetic aspects of visual culture, also when it comes to questions related to AI tools.
Design decisions can be discussed and reflected within the socio-historical
context. The analytical and scientific reading and writing skills have been practiced.
